"He is a madman. Leave him alone"

Men in khakhi keep advising us to ignore Sanjay Suvarna. They say, he is a madman, we should leave him alone. It does not matter to them, perhaps, that the madman abuses women, senior citizens, constantly harasses residents, blocks their drainage pipes, disrupts electricity and water, intimidate and threatens them,  and extorts money from them.

Whose purpose does it serve to say, "He is a madman, leave him alone"?
